McCormick Farms is a dairy farm that has approximately 1,800 head of milking Holstein cattle. There is an automatic milking carousel where 60 cows are milked at a time. Milking takes place approximately 21 hours each day. Milk is emptied daily from the milk house bulk storage tanks and delivered and sold to the wholesale market.

C.J. Brown Energy completed a NYSERDA Agricultural Energy Audit Level 3 analysis of the farm’s process equipment and lighting systems. A primary focus of the study was on investigation and analysis of higher efficiency refrigeration systems to upgrade the existing equipment. A combination of interval data loggers and instantaneous kW measurements were utilized to quantify the energy use by the milk refrigeration system.
