New York State Office of General Services Heating System Controls

C.J. Brown Energy has provided studies, engineering design and construction phase support services under a term contract for the replacement of existing pneumatic controls and non-open protocol systems with facility-wide open-protocol DDC systems at Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) facilities statewide. The objectives of this work are to ensure future scalability, improved operation and maintenance of HVAC equipment, and reduce the annual operational costs of the system.

Projects typically address the temperature control systems, temperature control communication, and air and hydronic system balance (TAB) deficiencies and involving multiple buildings.

The $1.8 million project at Bare Hill Correctional Facility involves installation of a new energy management system in 36 of the buildings at Bare Hill CF. The DDC system provides control over and monitoring of all HVAC systems including the central heating plant system and central pumping system equipment. BTU meters are being installed in each building’s heating system. The project includes a new fiber-optic backbone throughout the facility.

Services have also been provided at Lakeview Correctional Facility and Five Points Correctional Facility under the contract.
